The Westford Academy Grey Ghosts advanced to the second round of the playoffs after their dominant 33-7 F victory of the North Andover Scarlet Knights on October 30th.

The Ghosts ran rampant on the Knights’ defense, as senior captain running back Ben Cassidy notched his second hat trick of the season rumbling for three TDs.

“Their defense played a little different than what we had prepared for,” Cassidy said, “but give credit to the offensive line, they adjusted well and played great.”

Cassidy also got his defensive fix for the game, filling in at linebacker towards the end of the game, taking the place of injured senior Nik Lizine.

“I was prepared to go in, but Lizine’s a big part of the team, that’s why he’s there in the first place.” Fellow senior linebacker, captain Nick Diamond led the Ghosts’ defense against a tough run game in North Andover.

The Knights got their offense going at first, but Diamond got the defense to dig deep and shut down the Knights offensively. Diamond himself had a fumble recover and several tackles for losses.

The Ghosts’ defense has been able to perform when they need to, following a formula that’s proved them a force to be reckoned with.

“That’s just what we do,” Diamond said after the game.

Additionally, this was captain Nick Fiorillo’s first 100 yard receiving game, both a personal milestone and a continuation of the excellence that the team has displayed the whole season.

The Ghosts now advance to take on the Reading Rockets next Friday night, November 6th. This will be a rematch from last year’s playoffs, when the No. 1 Rockets fought off the No. 8 Grey Ghosts in a down-to-the-wire game that almost ended in the Ghosts’ favor.
