The juniors and seniors tied for a score of 0-0 on Thursday night at Westford Academy during the annual Powder Puff flag-football championship game. There were three games: the freshmen vs. the seniors, the sophomores vs. the juniors, and the juniors vs. the seniors for the championship game. The seniors won 22-0 to the freshmen in the first game; the sophomores lost 0-14 during the second game.

Although the freshmen lost to the seniors by such as large point margin, they were not too upset.

“We tried our hardest and it was a great game even though we lost; everyone had a lot of fun,” said freshman Lindsey Pacifico.

It appears that the girls playing in the football game were not the only ones who had fun on Thursday night.

7th grader Courtney Henning who went to support her sister, Caroline Henning, who was playing in the game said, “I love seeing girls playing football which is normally a boys’ sport, but it’s too bad that they are not as prepared as the seniors are.”

When asked how they thought the freshmen played, Coach Patrick Gendron said, “I think they played a great game and we played fast like we wanted to.”

Coach Brian Roark said, “I’m sure we will improve as the years go on. Onwards and upwards.”

The games were slightly aggressive though, and there were a few injuries. Towards the end of the championship game, junior Fatimah Nouilati tripped while running down the field and was accidentally kicked in the face by a senior. Nouilati was taken to the hospital and received four stitches for the cut on her nose, and her nose was also broken. Freshman Lilly Keele also injured herself, twisting her ankle as she ran down the field.

This annual game that is part of spirit week was enjoyable, but cold, with a lot of class camaraderie.
