WA Girls’ Lacrosse defeated Arlington 19-9 at home on Monday, May 22 in a one sided matchup. Sophomore Kassidy Carmichael scored her 300th career point with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, reaching an incredible milestone.

WA started off aggressively on the offensive end, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead in the first five minutes, with senior Lauren Smith scoring the fifth goal.

Carmichael then went on to score the next four goals for WA over the course of a three minute stretch, scoring her 300th point and extending their lead to 9-1. The entire WA team then briefly celebrated with Carmichael on the turf before resuming play.

Two minutes later, senior Erin McCarthy scored WA’s 10th goal of the day off of a great pass by Carmichael. Arlington then scored two consecutive goals to end WA’s 6-0 run and cut their lead down to 10-3.

Nearing the end of the half, Carmichael and freshman Emma Chapman continued the offensive onslaught for WA, extending their lead to 13-3 with just two minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Goalie Erin Blatt then made a phenomenal save on an 8m to keep WA’s lead at ten, but Arlington was able to sneak in a goal just before the half came to a close to cut WA’s lead down to 13-4.

WA and Arlington went back and forth for the first three minutes of the half, with Chapman scoring two more goals to extend their lead to 15-6. Freshman Sophia Williams then joined the party with her first goal of the game and the 16th for WA.

Seniors Hannah Kennedy and Leah Solari combined for the final three goals for WA, with two out of the three goals assisted by Carmichael. Arlington was able to put two more shots in the net as the clock winded down, resulting in a final score of 19-9 in favor of WA.

“It meant a lot scoring my 300th. After scoring that point I saw all of my teammates running at me, even Erin from all the way down in net to give me a hug,” Carmichael said. “It just made me realize how much support I had from my teammates this year and I could not have gotten it without them, as well as my coach.”
