The following is a press statement submitted to the Ghostwriter by WA DECA Club Officer Shreyas Mosurkal regarding DECA’s recent state competition. The statement has not been edited except to add paragraph breaks.

Westford Academy’s DECA business club had a fantastic performance last weekend at the 60th Massachusetts State Career Development Conference (SCDC). Representing the largest DECA chapter in the state, all 148 students who qualified for this competition made their presence known, showing off school pride and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the weekend.

After a few months of preparation, students packed up and headed out to Boston Copley Square, where they engaged in a long weekend of competition, including role plays and research presentations in areas from marketing to management and finance, judged by business professionals from all over New England. When all was said and done, this year’s SCDC was by far one of their most successful conferences ever, according to club advisor John Rogers.

40 Westford Academy students qualified to compete in the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando later this April, with numerous others claiming a spot in the top ten in their respective events.

In addition, Westford Academy students garnered over half of possible medal opportunities, with a number of students being Top 10 competitors in their role plays and business tests. Among these winners were not only veteran DECA upperclassmen, but also multiple 1st-time DECA underclassmen.

All in all, Westford Academy DECA displayed a remarkable spirit of determination resulting in a tremendous weekend for the club. Congratulations to all the students!
