On May 10, WA’s Varsity Baseball team won against Bedford. Many of the team members were nervous about the big game, but were confident about winning. Assistant Coach Brian Roark was excited about the upcoming game and was optimistic about the chances.

” I think the team is doing well this season, they have come together so well and I can’t wait what the future will bring us,” says Roark.

During the 1st inning, the game started out well with senior Alex Mondro pitching. The first three batters were struck out, with only one man getting onto first. Many of WA’s players were not threatened by Bedford’s small team but showed how strong they were when batting.  Towards the end of the inning, Mondro hit a big hitter into right field letting sophomore Ryan Durgin run from 2nd all the way home. By the end of the game, the score was 1-0 making, putting WA in the lead and setting the tone for the game.

In the second inning, pitcher Mondro was able to strike out the first 2 batters. The third batter, however, was able to hit a ball towards right outfield, but was caught by junior Kindred Atwood, making it an automatic out. During batting, WA was quick to get onto the bases but when trying to steal a base, junior Tyler Guillemette’s heel hit a ground ball. It was a clear out but in no time WA got another home run by junior Chris Zeoli. WA was still in the lead with the score being 2-1.

There were a few close calls during the third and fourth inning with Bedford having all bases loaded, but WA was able to pull through.

The fifth inning was when things started going downhill. Bedford had once again all the bases loaded, and was close to getting a run. Bedford was able to pull ahead and hit a ball almost to the fence, making the score 2-1

The final inning was when WA was able to pull all the way through. Senior Sean Egan was able to get a walk after getting hit in the side with the ball and making all the bases loaded. In the final minutes of the game, junior Matt Laverdure hit a home run and made the final score 4-1.

Throughout the game, the fans on the bleachers were optimistic and hoped for the best for the team. At the final minutes of the play, the crowd went berserk.  Roark was thrilled with the outcome of the game and was excited when saying,

“I think the team did a fantastic job in communicating and this was a big win for us and the boys play hard, they practice hard. They deserve this win and  I can’t wait to see future wins for us.”
