Last night, Westford Academy Girl’s Basketball faced off against Acton-Boxborough and won, maintaining a consistent lead as they continuously out-scored them.

WA stayed just ahead of AB during the first half, ending the first quarter 11-7. 33 seconds into the second quarter, AB managed to temporarily surpass WA by one point. However, they quickly lost that lead as senior Emily Bramanti made the first of many three-pointers that quarter.

With Bramanti’s stellar three-pointers, WA solidified a large gap between themselves and AB, ending the first half with a score of 32-19.

WA continued their lead in the third quarter, adding 13 points to their score compared to AB’s additional 9, ending 45-28.

By the final quarter, however, AB’s defense strengthened up. After junior Brooke Pillsbury made a three-point play with 5:27 left in the quarter, WA was unable to make any more baskets except for a pair of free throws made by senior Elizabeth Arnold roughly a minute later.

After Arnold’s last set of free-throws, WA remained scoreless against AB’s defense. The game ended with WA winning 54-32.

Reviewing the game, Coach Russell Coward was happy about his team’s performance after a long break.

“We haven’t played in a while. We haven’t played in about twelve days, so I’m very happy that we started to play better in the second quarter, […] obviously we shot well from the three-point line.”

WAGB will be playing Wachusett at TD Garden on Saturday, January 27th.
