Week 3 in Westford Rec Basketball was a good one, seeing two teams continue their undefeated seasons. A new Rookie of the Year favorite emerged, and a team got their first win. Also, multiple players had 5 3’s in one game. Lets see how it went down.

Akron Zips 44

UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs 41

The Zips won a hard fought game getting in this in column for the first time this season over the Banana Slugs. Aditya Naik led the way for the Zips with 11 points, and Matt Laverdure had 9 points on 3 3-pointers. C.J. Pacifico also chipped in with 2 threes of his own. The key for the Zips however was their defense, especially on Will Atkins who has been on fire recently. Atkins was kept to only 7 points which is great considering his recent run to start the season leading the league in points per game with 23.6 ppg.

Wichita State Shockers 48 F/OT

University of Idaho Vandals 45

Overtime has not been kind to the Vandals as they lost their second game in OT this season as the Shockers continued their undefeated start to the season. Wichita rained threes on the Vandals as Tim Loosigian had 5 threes and Justin Dulczewski had two. Devin Crogan had some threes for the Vandals and scored 11, and Nick Kullberg had nine points along with some highlight reel passes. However, it wasn’t enough for the Vandals as in OT Loosigian knocked down a three to sink them and move Wichita to 4-0

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 70

Texas A&M International Dustdevils 34

Despite one win, Texas A&M will not be winning any points differential awards anytime soon. Missing Jason Dolan, they got blown out by almost 40 again against the Chanticleers. Dom Digiovine broke Jason Fitzgerald’s sophomore scoring record for this season right in front of him dropping an astounding 27 points, one of the best performances of the season. Jesse McLaughlin also had 13 points for Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers also held Jason Fitzgerald to only 8 points, impressive considering his last 2 games where he averaged 17 points.

Campbell Fighting Camels 67

Saint Louis Billikens 53

A high scoring game brought both these teams back to .500 as the Camels defeated the Billikens in a high scoring affair. Ryan Wasylshyn did the dirty work for Campbell with 19 points all coming inside the 3-point line. Wasylyshyn also got to the line a good amount going 5 for 6 from the charity stripe. Matt Vlach was water from outside for Campbell with 12 points on 4 three pointers. This inside outside attack from the Fighting Camels proved too much for the Billikens who left some points at the foul line going 10 for 26. They will be able to turn in around especially as John Alfano came alive in this game, dropping a season high 14 points.

Stetson Hatters 51

Webster Gorloks 47

Chris Delouchrey went off in this game, and got the win for the Hatters. He dropped 27 points with 5 3-pointers, and outscored his entire team, but they probably did not mind as the Hatters still got the win. For the Gorloks, the preseason favorites continued their cold start falling to 1-3. Cam Tierney and Brian McNeil had good performances, as Tierney had 20 and McNeil had 13. However, these two might need some help if they want to turn their season around.

Evansville Purple Aces 52

Fort Wayne Mastodons 40

After a heartbreaking loss in their last game the Aces came back with a great game led by Shray Gurtata. Gurtata had 20 points with 15 coming in the first half. Brendan Walsh also ran all over the Mastodons with 16 points. Chris Amato poured in a season high 17 points but it was not enough in this one as Fort Wayne fell to 1-3 on the season.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 58

Akron Zips 51

This one was a bit closer for the Chanticleers as the Zips mounted a comeback in the second half after being down 34-19. Dom DiGiovine continued his campaign for Rookie of the Year with 17 points on perfect foul shooting.

DiGiovine was still not happy after the game.

“I didn’t get to 30 points, that’s all I needed to do,” he said

His performance along with Jesse McLaughlin’s 15 points moved Coastal Carolina to 4-0. However, Ben Nudler had one of the best plays of the season for Akron hitting a deep three while getting fouled, but still missed the foul shot.

University of Idaho Vandals 48

Stetson Hatters 44

The Vandals came into this game with a deceiving 1-2 record, having lost to both the undefeated teams this year in OT. Peter Waldron had a good first half for Idaho getting to the line twice, scoring 6 points, and playing good defence. The Hatters however led by Chris Delouchrey’s quick hands made a furious comeback at the end of the game, but Marcus Njorogeh and Justin Ly-em iced the game with some clutch free throws to move the Vandals to 2-2.
