WA Girl’s Basketball is Victorious Against Wachusett Regional

On January 3rd, WA’s Varsity Girl’s Basketball Team went head to head with Wachusett Regional, winning 61-50.

The first quarter started off strong with WA forcing a turnover in the first minute and shooting a basket, establishing the lead they would keep throughout the game. WA continued to dominate the court, making great interceptions throughout the first quarter, keeping their lead 14-9 halfway through the first quarter. With two minutes and 45 seconds left in the first quarter, Wachusett called a timeout. WAGB continued to make great shots through the first quarter ending at 21-17 with WA in the lead.

The second quarter started off great with Taylor Pillsbury making a shot in the first minute, advancing their lead 24-17. WA continued to make great turnovers and maintained their lead, despite Wachusett making steps to close their lead, and WA managed to maintain their lead 38-32.  WA played a great defensive game against Wachusett and closed the first half up 36-27.

During the second half, Wachusett attempted to close WA’s lead, but WA played great defense, securing the third quarter at 45-34 . WA’s offense shined during the fourth quarter, winning the game 61-50, while their defense makes great blocks against Wachusett.

In a statement from Coach Russ Coward, he said “We played probably our best game of the season” and that “We did a good job, especially on defense and I thought that our offense worked very well in the second half.”
