Girls’ Lax dominates Waltham

The WA girls’ varsity lacrosse team took their season opener at home over Waltham by a commanding score of 19-6. The game was fraught with scoring from WA and stellar defense by the entire squad.

Waltham got off to a quick start with a goal, but WA quickly racked up offensive chances. They worked the ball around the net and create chaos for the Waltham defense. Finally WA scored 4 quick goals, with one coming from senior Alayna Serpa.

The game took a complete WA turn from here on out. Even when defensive breakdowns occurred, plays by sophomore Carina Stafstrom saved them from being a major issue.

Eventually, Waltham was able to pick up another goal, and when Hailey Cogliano was flagged for a penalty, Waltham also capitalized on the power play opportunity.

WA immediately answered this score with one of their own.

After more great WA defense, the half came to a end, with WA holding Waltham to a 11-4 deficit.

The second half was similar to the first, with 3 WA goals and no answer from the struggling Waltham squad. WA defense stopped any attempts by Waltham to make any sort of resistance. When Waltham eventually broke through, they were answered by WA once again.

Waltham’s goalie was able to stop a fantastic WA shot, but other than this moment, she struggled to stop WA.

By the end of the final half, WA had taken Waltham to school, winning by the score line of 19-6.

The girls will faceoff against Bromfield in their next home game.
