WA Girls’ Hockey won against Woburn on Tuesday, March 8th, at an away game. WA fans were cheering on the girls throughout the game and the Ghosts were triumphant in the end.

As the girls were getting ready to play, the fans were anxiously waiting for the game to commence. Different cheers, including the Ghostcoaster, were used by WA fans which helped the players.

The first period started off with both teams defending the puck. It wasn’t until the end of the period when the Woburn Tanners scored the first goal. The final score for the period was 1-0.

The second period was frustrating for the Ghosts and WA fans.

With ten minutes to go in the period, junior Cat Mahana rebounded her own shot off the goalie and nudged the puck across the goal line. However, the refs ruled the puck did not completely cross, resulting in the score remaining 1-0 heading into the third period.

The third period was an exciting part of the game for WA.  With just five minutes to go, Junior, Ainsley Lamb managed to gain control of the puck while in a scrum and fired it past the unsuspecting goalie. Lamb’s goal resulted in the game rolling into a 5v5 6-minute overtime with the score 1-1.

The two teams fought in the neutral zone nearly the whole 6 minutes as the crowd was ecstatic and on their feet. After a scoreless 6 minutes 5v5 overtime, the game continued into a 4v4 6-minute over time.

After just two minutes junior Colleen Ellis once again was clutch and scored the game winning goal carrying WA to the victory and ending Woburn’s season. Ellis once again showed everyone her impressive stick handling after also scoring the game winning goal against Billerica during the shootout Saturday night.

The final period was a game changer for the Ghosts. Junior Colleen Ellis scored the winning goal for WA which concluded the game with a score of 2-1, WA.

The next game is on Sunday, March 13th, at Woburn against #1 seed Arlington Catholic.
