The boys varsity basketball team was victorious against Shrewsbury’s colonials, ending the game with a final score of 51-44. The game was certainly not easy, as seen by spectators, coaches and players on the court.

It started off with Junior Patrick Coffey placing on the board with two free throws, and ending first quarter with WA leading 6 points in 17-11.

As the second period continued, Shrewsbury evaded Westford’s offense and defense only grew stronger. Shrewsbury went on a quick run to open the corner, but the Ghosts came back throughout the quarter to bring the lead with a one point difference of 24-23. Coffey placed WA in the lead with 6 points from his half court shot.

Coach Chris Bramanti commented on the team’s strength saying, “Our composure. We never lost our composure, yeah we got down a couple of times but we kept our composure and competed.”

Shrewsbury called a timeout with 3 minutes left in third quarter, four of the players were tied with six points.

Heading into the final quarter of the game, WA kept maintaining the lead with Coffey having 10 points and senior Dan Cornelius with 8. With 4 minutes remaining, WA led after senior Eric McCord re-entered game after sitting due to foul trouble.

Daniel Cornelius shot a three-pointer with almost 3 minutes remaining  trying to gain more on their 46-39 lead. Afterwards, WA called a timeout when their lead was cut to four with less than thirty seconds remaining.

Athletic Director Dan Twomey gave positive feedback to the team.

“Players themselves played pretty well, I mean they all contributed last night and I’d say there were a lot of factors that played in their favor. Like being at home, where you’re used to the court and having familiar fans around. The coach did a great job throughout the team,” said Twomey.

Eric McCord  missed after scrambling for the ball with only 18.7 seconds, but Cornelius stole the ball and threw free throws with 8.7 seconds left. Ultimately, the ghosts won with a 51-44 victory, WA squad having five players finish with a 6 point victory.

Coach Bramanti  spoke on their successful season and promised more wins in the future.

“The season’s been tremendous, we’ve done a lot of things and we’ve got a lot to do. Well one negative thing, I’d point out we didn’t shoot free throws particularly well and in a positive thing would be well, just the way we competed,” said Bramanti.

The game obviously swayed in the favor of Ghost, being at the number one seeding over the eighth seeding Shrewsbury held. Despite most of the players being inexperienced with Playoffs game, they held on well and did not pose as a worry. Ultimately, it was the team’s overall cooperation, talent, and dedication that helped them win the game.

“Well, they gave a good effort. Our goal was to make sure we come in the game working hard and getting the results. I think we did that,” said Bramanti,
