After a winning season last year, the girls’ hockey team was recently put into a new division. Their new league consists of opponents including Chelmsford, Tyngsboro, and Acton-Boxborough.
Since there will be more challenging competition in this division, they have to be ready to take on some of the best teams in Eastern Massachusetts.
Coach Bob Ware is excited for the upcoming season. After a terrific season last year where the team went 16-3-1, Ware said they are ready to improve. He says the effort they put in last year was good, but, with the new division, they need to improve with time and a lot of practice.
The first game for the 2012-2013 season is on December 11th against Andover at Skate 3 in Tyngsboro at 8:15 pm.
The goals for this year are to win in the new league and to advance into the state tournament.
Ware is aware of the weakness in only having one goalie. Sophomore Kerry Pouliot plays in the net every minute in all three periods. Ware knows that is a lot of time and he is planning to have the defense step up to another level to help block shots and reduce multiple shots.
