The fans and the players really go into Tuesday afternoon’s nail-biting rivarly game between Westford Academy and Lincoln-Sudbury. The undefeated Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors traveled to the turf Tuesday to take on WAGS. It was a great game that came down to the wire but Westford would prevail to get the 1-0 upset win over LS.
Lauren Steele came through for the Ghosts, scoring their lone goal in the 1-0 win with 6:53 left in the first half off of an assist from Kyra Kruger. Westford was seemingly allergic to the net after that due to great goal tending by the Warrior’s keeper. There were plenty of open loos, however, none of them could be converted into scores after Steele’s lone goal.
However WA controlled time of possession nicely and was complimented by stunning play from goalie Sam Hyslip. Hyslip came through with some clutch saves to help the Ghost’s hold their undefeated rivals scoreless on the day. The Ghosts were able to control the ball and play great defense in the final few minutes as they ran down the clock for the win. The defense only broke down very few times, and when they did, LS was kept off the scoreboard by great play in net by Hyslip.

There were injuries left and right throughout the game, and fouls to go along, including a head to head collision between two girls trying to head the ball. The two were both down for a decent amount of time with the Westford Academy player able to get up first. The player from LS was able to walk off the field on her own power eventually as well. With each team truly giving it their all, players were doing anything to make plays, leading to constant collisions. Fortunately, none seemed to sustain any long term injuries.
This was a momentous win for the Ghosts as the team rushed on to the field to congratulate each other as the final whistle blew as Westford was able to defeat their unbeaten rivals. The Ghosts are having a great season and their first playoff game is on Wednesday, November 7th.
