With Main Street flooded by supporters from all over the town, Westford celebrated its 56th annual Apple Blossom Parade on Saturday, May 17. The yearly tradition began on May 19, 1935 when a handful of local apple growers teamed up with the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture and County Extension Services to shine a spotlight on Westford’s blooming orchards.
This year, the parade featured a myriad of different events, including a performance from the Westford Academy Marching Band, a showcase of vintage cars, and members of the Westford Minutemen firing their muskets. The parade also awarded its first Service Together Achieves Results (STAR) award to Westford Academy senior Heer Mehta. Notably, this is the first year that the parade has not had a queen, which, according to Westford Kiwanis member Michael Harm, is because the club wanted to reward community service and make the award open to a wider array of people.
