The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) was designed as a standard of education in Massachusetts when it was created in 1993. However, on Nov. 6, 2024, Massachusetts voters removed MCAS as a graduation requirement. Discussions have begun in Westford on whether or not the school district should keep the MCAS as a graduation requirement. Regardless of either the state or the pending town decision, students will still have to take the MCAS. The Ghostwriter asked students and teachers whether or not they believed MCAS should be a graduation requirement at WA.
“MCAS should be a graduation requirement because it holds our school systems to a higher standard and ensures that all students are getting the proper education and knowledge that is required before you graduate and go on to college,” sophomore Amelia Brown said.
