Kim Keenan has always aspired to be a teacher. Now she is fulfilling her dreams by teaching in the special services department at Westford Academy.  She is helping freshman students who are struggling in English to gain more confidence in their writing and reading.

If she had the opportunity to teach beyond her position in student services, Kennan would teach an English class, especially at WA. Keenan has been working in Westford for the entirety of her career and has hoped to work at the high school level. Now that she is at WA, she can see her former students progress and grow.

After majoring in early intervention and human development at Framingham State University, Kennan quickly got a job offer and found herself working at the Stony Brook Middle School.

Since Keenan has been teaching for so long, her personal connections with students are very strong.

“Working with special needs students is rewarding and supporting them in their general education is also great but I also like working with kids who in a substantially different population and connecting with those kids.”

One of her favorite memories teaching was running the theater program at Stony Brook. She found it rewarding seeing kids use theater as an outlet and a place to express themselves. She even was one of the cast members in a former play at Stony Brook.

Now at WA, Keenan has been adapting to her new workplace in many positive ways. She has acquired many beneficial traits such as diplomacy, tolerance, and learning skills. However, she still struggles with punctuality. One goal she has for her first year at WA is to better understand the schedule, as it is confusing to her.

Despite difficulties with punctuality, Keenan said she appreciates working at WA and enjoys watching the growth and progression of her students and helping them overcome their disadvantages.
