Freshman Hailey Cogliano is tearing up the lacrosse field. She was placed on the varsity girls lacrosse team immediately after try-outs and since then, her teammates said Cogliano has helped the team tremendously.
“As a freshman she has really surprised everyone. She’s just unbelievable,” said senior Captain Erica Mattila.
Cogliano said she has scored 42 goals so far this season, including playoff games. During the first round of the MIAA East Division I Playoffs, she had an incredible game and scored four goals with numerous assists.
Cogliano watched the team play when she was in middle school and said that helped to familiarize herself with the girls on the team and their playing style.
Mattila said this is clear to her because of how Cogliano fits well into the team dynamic.
“She gels with our offense extremely well,” said Mattila.
Senior Captain Jenna Klinka said Cogliano is definitely an impressive player, and always brings her ‘A’ game.
“Hailey always plays her hardest. She has had some amazing goals this season,” Klinka said.
Cogliano said making the varsity team as a freshman was the highlight of her year.
“I was so excited when I found out, and I can’t wait to continue playing the next three years,” she said.
Both Klinka and Mattila said they expect Cogliano to continue to be a key player for WA in the years to come.
“I’m really proud of how far she has come already,” said Mattila.” I’m looking forward to seeing how well she does the next 3 years and after that in college.”
