Student Spotlight: Claire D’Silva

The Ghostwriter had the opportunity to sit down and interview D’Silva for our Student Spotlight Series. Read the transcript below for the full interview!

Claire D’Silva is a freshman at Westford Academy and an art lover as she described loving all forms of art including sculpting, painting and drawing. D’Silva is interested in Chemistry and would like to be a Chemistry teacher or a Research Scientist when she grows up. D’Silva also enjoys watching tv shows, with her favorite one currently being “Community”, a sitcom.

Q: Hi! Who am I here with today?

A: My name is Claire and I am in 9th grade.

Q: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?

A: Creative because I like art.

Q: What do you like to draw? What types of art do you do?

A: I like sculpting stuff and I like to draw.

Q: Do you do any of the art classes here at WA?

A: Yeah, I did fundamentals this year. I can’t do art club because I have stuff going on on Wednesdays but yeah.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A: Well I like art, but also I forgot to mention that I’m a big chemistry nerd, so my goal is either like chemistry teacher, or some sort of lab job.

Q: Do you have any idea where you’d want to go to college or what you want to major in?

A: Honestly, no. I have, a lot of my friends have a college list picked out but I don’t really.

Q: That’s fair. If you could go to any place in the world, where would it be and why?

A: My dream vacation would be going to Italy and I’m going on the Italy trip this year so yeah. I take Latin so I was excited because I just like Italy.

Q: What part of Italy are you most excited for?

A: Probably Pompeii because of all the history because it’s really cool and stuff.

Q: Are there any other places that you have traveled to before that you really like?

A: I’ve gone to India like a few times [because] my dad’s from India. So I went once when I was four or six, my dad went during midterms so I couldn’t go but yeah.

Q: What type of books do you like?

A: Mostly all books. I’ve just kind of read forever. I like fantasy books a lot. I also kind of like mysteries but it has to be a murder mystery for me to find it interesting.

Q: Do you have a specific author you like?

A: I like Rachel Withincott. She writes really good books.

Q: Do you have any other hobbies besides sculpting or painting?

A: I watch a lot of TV, I don’t know if that counts as a hobby but I just get obsessed with TV shows. And then I watch them over and over.

Q: What’s your favorite TV show?

A: Probably “Community”. It’s this sitcom show. But, it’s weird. It’s at a community college and there’s a lot of students and they form this study group. And it kind of makes fun of a lot of bad sitcoms, so it can be really good at times. There’s a movie that’s supposed to come out.

Q: What brands do you like to shop at?

A: Usually just like Savers because I like thrifting stuff because it’s cheap but it’s also reusable. I went to Forever 21 like once.
