The Ghostwriter had the opportunity to sit down and interview senior Damian DiNitto for our Student Spotlight series. Read the transcript below for our full interview!
Q: Who am I here with today?
A: My name is Damian DiNitto.
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I’m a senior at WA.
Q: Have you decided where you are going to college yet?
A: Yes. I have committed to UMass Lowell for marketing, and I might get a minor in graphic design on the side or something. I was thinking of combining both of those to do something like advertising.
Q: What did you like most about UMass Lowell’s Campus?
A: Primarily, it’s just that it’s so close, and I can just commute there. I don’t have to spend extra money on boarding and stuff.
Q: How did you decide on your major?
A: For marketing, I just kind of like talking to people and like collaborating with others, and I think marketing will just be a perfect fit for that.
Q: Where do you hope to be employed after you graduate from college?
A: I don’t know, just anywhere that I can get a marketing job, I guess. Maybe a typical office space like from before COVID with a bunch of people and collaborating with each other. Something like that.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A: In 10 years, probably just around a typical office job. Maybe going to trade shows and stuff every once in a while.
Q: If you could be anywhere in the world right now where would you be?
A: I would probably be in Italy, just because that’s where half of my side of my family is from. I have visited before and it is really nice. Specifically in Italy, I would probably go to Sicily and Gaia because that’s where my great grandmother and great grandfather from my dad’s side of the family were from. And then also one day, I would like to visit Scotland, because that’s my mom’s side of the family. The only place I’ve been to in Europe is Italy.
Q: Where else in the world have you traveled?
A: I have been to Costa Rica over April break, in like eighth grade or freshman year. It was pretty cool. A lot of sights to see. I didn’t really enjoy the zip lining though on that [ because I’m] not a big heights guy. But it was a cool little tropical location.
Q: If you could have one tattoo, what would it be?
A: I don’t really plan on getting a tattoo, but if I had to get one, it would probably be one of the the rock band Rush. They are my favorite band of all time.
Q: What is your favorite album?
A: Probably the moving pictures album. It’s their most commercial album. It has a lot of the big hits on it like ‘Tom Sawyer’, stuff like that.
Q: What is your favorite song?
A: That’s a hard one. ‘Tom Sawyer’ is pretty good, ‘Fly By Night’, ‘2112’ , and ‘Jacob’s Ladder’. Those are all pretty good contenders.
Q: How did you get into Rush?
A: Primarily just from my dad playing a lot of tunes in the car going to and from hockey when I was little. He played a lot of Rush and Kiss. I went to go see Kiss’s final tour last year in November. That was awesome. Led Zeppelin and Black are also good bands that I grew up with.
Q: Have you ever been to any other concerts?
A: So the only actual band I’ve been to live is Kiss, with all their members there. I’ve seen Nick Mason perform before, he was the drummer for Pink Floyd. But it was him in his own band. I’ve seen [Steven Patrick] Morrissey, he was the lead singer [in Smiths]. He was mostly doing a lot of solo stuff, but I liked his stuff with the Smiths. I have also seen Lotusland, which is a tribute to Rush. So, I have been to a few concerts and I hope to go to more in the future.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: I just like hanging out with people as much as possible. Whether it is going to the movies, or bowling, or an arcade. I just like to be social as much as possible.
Q: What’s your favorite spot to go and watch movies?
A: Probably O’Neil [Cinemas] because it’s convenient. Actually, me and a couple of buddies during our long block DLT tried to see how long we could be out for, and we were able to go and see a movie at O’neil , and got back in time just before the last block.
Q: What’s your favorite movie that you’ve seen with your friends, or just favorite movie in general?
A: ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ was pretty funny. I watched that like a year or two back. I am big into comedies, like the first ‘Borat’ is really funny. The ‘Beavis and Butthead’ movie, that’s really funny. I like the animation on that.
Q: What’s your favorite class?
A: My favorite class I would say is history, which is pretty cool. I like learning a lot about the world and how things affected other things, the snowball effect and stuff like that. That is always cool.
