After four years of dedication to her academics, Westford Academy senior Sally Lee has achieved the honor of becoming Salutatorian for this year’s graduating class. Lee has achieved a 4.29 grade point average over the course of her four year tenure at WA. This was achieved through immense amounts of hard work and many nights spent doing homework into the early morning hours.
Lee credits her success to her holistic experience at WA.
“Being among people I was comfortable with along with taking classes with with my friends [made me successful]. I feel like when I look back I won’t remember any of the accolades… It’s more about the people you meet and the connections you make in the least manipulative way possible.”
Along with exemplary academic skills, Lee also demonstrated a large commitment to music and maintaining strong friendships.
“It’s really easy to be all sides of yourself around her,” said junior Janice Huang.
Her music teacher for four years, Ken Culver, also had nothing but praise for her.
“Sally is a very upbeat and involved student. She always knows what is going on and is wonderful at asking questions and giving her opinions. She is a great leader with lots of energy,” said Culver.
Lee will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles this upcoming fall along with valedictorian, senior Kate Whitney. It was “the right choice for the things I want to study,” according to Lee. Though she has not narrowed down a specific field of study, Lee has narrowed her choices down to physics and some other sciences.
According to Sarah Bjorkman, Lee’s Latin teacher for three years, “In the future, Sally will be great at whatever she pursues. She’s very intelligent, but she’s also got a great head on her shoulders and a great sense of humor. That rare combination of innate talent, motivation, and outgoing personality will take her far.”
