New teacher feature: Phillip Logsdon

By: Kate Spinosa
Staff Writer

Phillip Logsdon is a new teacher here at Westford Academy who works in the science department. He currently teaches three Physics classes and two Engineering classes.

Logsdon has always wanted to be a teacher, and this is his second year doing so. Logsdon graduated from Michigan State University. Last year he taught at the Susan B. Anthony School in Revere, but the department he worked in lost its funding, which led him to discover Westford Academy.

Logsdon worked many years at Hewlett-Packard Company as an engineer, principal consultant, and sales manager.  He also worked as the district sales manager for a local Westford company, NetScout Systems, makers of network monitoring & troubleshooting tools.

Logsdon loves it here at Westford Academy. He feels he has a lot to offer students about course content and the career world. He wants students to run towards problems and not away from them.

Logsdon enjoys teaching science because it is about learning to understand how things work, and it is okay to find a better way of doing things. He wants students to know that its okay to fail at a problem, the important thing is that you try it, find out what works and what does not.

“It is very important for students to develop a sense of curiosity about everything.  Seeking the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the world will guide & delight each student for all of their lives,” Logsdon said.

For his future at Westford Academy, Logsdon wants to learn more about school activities, sports and theatre here. He loves that the students here are curious and caring.
