The Ghostwriter had the opportunity to sit down and interview Sam Bisso for our Student Spotlight series. We discussed his love for music, his guinea pigs, and some plans for the future. Read the transcript below for our full interview!
Q: What’s your name and what grade are you in?
A: My name is Sam Bisso. I’m in ninth grade.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: I play guitar. I actually played for the Pit Band, which is for [Westford Academy] plays like “Little Shop of Horrors”. And now we’re doing “Nine to Five”.
Q: Have you always played guitar? Or was it something new?
A: I’ve played guitar since I was in fifth grade.
Q: How was your experience playing in the pit for the show?
A: It was really fun, a little hard at first, but it was really fun. It was fun seeing everything on the stage earlier than anyone else could.
Q: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
A: People say I’m funny.
Q: Why do you think a lot of people say that?
A: Honestly, […] I don’t really know. I’m just always trying to make light out of situations [by] making jokes, stuff like that.
Q: Tell us something that you don’t think a lot of people know about you.
A: I try to be as outgoing as possible. But even when I am, I still get nervous. And I always just […] say the wrong things.
Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
A: I don’t know, I’m still deciding. I don’t know what path I want to take for careers. I do want to be some type of musician. I don’t know what type yet.
Q: Do you think your experiences working in the pits, and plays have helped you want to be a musician?
A: Yes.
Q: Are you doing anything else outside of [the plays]?
A: I’m also doing jazz bands. And I also plan on doing other bands next year.
Q: Do you play any other instruments or just guitar?
A: I just started to learn piano. And a while ago, I knew how to play trombone. I don’t really play it anymore.
Q: Do you know why you stopped?
A: I just didn’t really like it. It just wasn’t my vibe.
Q: Do you do any music classes at WA or just outside of school?
A: I do. I took piano lab class this semester and last semester I did electronic music.
Q: And have you liked those classes?
A: I do.
Q: If you could have a meal with any person in the world, who would it be?
A: Maybe one of my sisters.
Q: Why is that?
A: They’re just easy to talk to. I relate to them a lot. I have two older sisters. They’re both in college. And I feel like a lot of people don’t really get along with their older siblings, but I do. They’re just easy to talk to.
Q: Has it been hard since they’ve been away for college?
A: It has been. It’s very lonely, I would say. But they do come back and visit frequently.
Q: If you could get a tattoo, what would it be?
A: I used to have a guinea pig. Well, I have a guinea pig now but [I had] an old guinea pig that died. So maybe of him, because he was only […] two years old.
Q: What was his name?
A: Brownie.
Q: If you could go to one place in the world right now, what would it be?
A: I don’t know. I don’t like traveling. I really don’t.
Q: Do you know why [you don’t like to travel]?
A: I get car sick a lot. I just don’t like the travel part of it. I always get sick. So I don’t know, I’ve ever been out of the United States before.
Q: If there was a place that you could go without getting sick, would you want to go anywhere?
A: I don’t know someplace in Europe, maybe France or maybe Germany.
