Today, January 8, 2015, WA Gymnastics won their meet against Wachussett High School, Westboro High School, and Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. With a total of 138.25 points, WA keeps their undefeated season underway.
Although they won, Captain Sydney Pouliopoulos thinks that this meet being the first since winter break had a bit of an influence on their performance.
“I think the team did well, but we were a little bit all over the place,” said Pouliopoulos. “But it is the first meet back from vacation so we are just getting back into the swing of things.”
WA started off the meet at bars, with a great routine from freshman Hannah Kettering, scoring an 8.5. They then moved on to beam, where sophomore Julia Vitto outshone the rest of her teammates after sticking her landing perfectly. Sophomore Joscelyn Paglia also did well on beam, even landing her back handspring on the beam.
Next was floor, where Captain Jackie Beals said she thinks was their strongest event. Pouliopoulos wowed the crowd with a past faced tumbling heavy routine that she executed amazingly, scoring an 8.8. Beals also did well on floor with a 9.1. Another outstanding floor routine came from sophomore Kiana Brown, who scored a 9.0 after landing all of her elements perfectly.
Brown went on to do the best vault routine for WA with an overall score of 9.1 after amazing the crowd with a double back flip and an absolutely perfect landing. The crowd went crazy for her. Shortly after, Pouliopoulos also did well on vault, scoring an 8.8.
Overall, Poulipoulos said she is pleased that they won and wants to keep up their winning streak.
” Hopefully we can stay undefeated all season,” she said.
WA’s next meet is tomorrow at WA against Andover High School at 4:30 p.m.
