Earlier this summer, junior Chiaro Peters made the trip from Germany to Westford to spend the year as part of the foreign exchange program. Although he has only been here for a limited time, he has been greeted very warmly by the students and faculty here at WA.
“Everyone here is very nice to me and I have made a lot of friends here so far in class and outside of class,” said Peters. “It’s nice here right now.”
Peters is also a very good student back in Germany and has challenged himself here taking classes difficult classes, including honors classes that the average WA student might struggle with. However, he has done well so far.
Peters also has been assisting German teacher Timothy Welch with one of his classes as a teacher assistant during F block.
However, Peters did not travel to WA solely for the academics, he is also a member of the boys soccer team. He was a goalkeeper and defender on the Junior Varsity team this past season.
“It was a nice time with the guys and I really enjoyed it,” said Peters.
He helped contribute to his teams success as well, helping lead the team to a nine win season while only losing three games.
He is also hoping to participate in the Nordic Ski team this winter, in part due to the fact that the Nordic coach, Andy Norander, was also his soccer coach.
“Chiaro always has a positive attitude and it was a pleasure to be his coach.” said Norander.
Peters initially believed that Westford would be like a city and was surprised at how different everything is in the US.
“[Everyone] is very polite and the people here are very nice…The one correct thing is the food,” said Peters. “Everything is big and super sized and that includes food and buildings and the school and it surprised me and made me say wow because everything is so humungous.”
Peters’ optimistic attitude has made him a joy for everyone to be around, and he said “I am just looking forward to this year and am looking forward to trying new things.”
