In freshman year, I saw My Chemical Romance play a concert in Boston. Upon leaving the show, I had an overwhelming urge to tell everyone about my experience – to share my excitement, my opinions, and the story of the night’s events.
This is the night when I knew I wanted to get involved in journalism. Now, over three years later, my time with the Ghostwriter is coming to a close. Where has the time gone?
However, I couldn’t have asked for a better three years writing for this publication. I have learned so many lessons that I will hold dear to me for the rest of my life. I’m not just talking about ISOs and nut grafs – I’m talking about the value of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication.
To say that I was proud of this staff for recently winning first place in the region for an online student publication is an understatement. That award was years in the making. When I started writing for the Ghostwriter in 2011, the website was nothing more than a humble WordPress blog.
I firmly believe that the Class of 2014’s staff members were an important catalyst in the publication’s change from classroom hobby to reliable news source.
Now, I must close the door to my high school career and open a new one: college. It’s quite intimidating, that’s for sure. My decision to major in communications was heavily influenced by my Ghostwriter experience. Whether or not I’ll stick with it or make a living out of it is something only time will tell.
For now, though, I will continue sharing my and others’ stories with the world.
