As a young second grader, Meghan Kibblehouse enjoyed watching her older sister’s fifth grade travel basketball team play each weekend. She fell in love with the game and decided to try it out herself.
Kibblehouse started participating in the sport when she was in the third grade when she played for Westford’s recreational program.
Now a senior, Kibblehouse plays point guard on the varsity basketball team at WA. She is 1 of 3 captains this year with juniors Hannah Hackley and Samantha Hyslip. This will be Kibblehouse’s third year as a member of the team after joining during her sophomore year.
She is looking forward to the rest of the season and feels that the team will go a long way. Some of the upcoming goals for the team include to win the DCL and be successful in the state tournament.
Though she plays basketball year round, Kibblehouse still makes time for the activities that she enjoys. Outside of the sport, she likes to run and spend time with friends and family as often as possible, but she plans to continue playing throughout college.
Kibblehouse has applied to many colleges in the New England area and has plans to major in nursing this fall. If possible, she hopes to play basketball for a division 3 school.
“If I do not end up playing basketball on an official college team, I will 100% still play on a club or intramural team,” said Kibblehouse.
Varsity head coach Russ Coward speaks highly of Kibblehouse as a player when it comes to her knowledge of the game.
“Kibs is without a doubt the best perimeter defensive player I have ever coached,” said Coward. “Her knowledge of the game and her intensity when playing is extraordinary.”
Kibblehouse’s teammates, including fellow captain Samantha Hyslip, also appreciate her not only as a player, but as a teammate and respected captain.
“Meghan is a great teammate, player, and leader,” said Hyslip. “She motivates me to play better and tells me when I’m doing something wrong. The WA basketball team is lucky to have her, she is the playmaker.”
