The class of 2025 student government is setting off the winter sports season with the upcoming 3v3 Basketball Tournament fundraiser.
The tournament will be taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and will start after school at 2:15 p.m, running until 7 p.m. All grade levels are welcome and interested students have until Nov. 19 to register. The entrance fee is $10 per person.
The senior class officers, president Diya Jayaraman, vice president Tanya Dayan, secretary Erin Keefe, and treasurer Arav Jain, as well as the class advisers Jennifer Conti and Julie Bostrom, are excited to be putting together the tournament this year.
“We want to make sure that everyone has a good time there, and it’s a memorable experience, especially for the seniors,” Jain said.
This tournament has been done multiple years in the past and has proved to be a very successful fundraiser, both at raising money and the spirits of the student body. Last year, 13 teams registered for the tournament.
The tournament will be utilizing a bracket system that teams have to work through to reach the championship match, where they will push to clinch the win.
The 3v3 style of the tournament this year is going to be run using half-court, in contrast to the usual 5v5, full-court structure. The condensed team size and court will hopefully lead to quicker games, allowing the bracket to progress at a consistent rate. Participants are also encouraged to make team names to increase spirit among groups.
Teams are allowed to register in groups of four, with three players on the court and one substitute. However, to prevent teams from having unfair advantages, every group is limited to only one varsity basketball player per team.
This is one of the first big fundraisers of the year for the senior class among the barbecue and pie fundraisers. They hope to put the funds raised towards class events like prom and senior week.
The winners of the 3v3 tournament will get their names engraved on plaques of a trophy, amplifying the already high competitive spirit at the games. The energy at the event, as seen in previous years, makes the environment exciting both as a viewer and participant.
“[The tournament] is a lot of fun to both play and watch,” Keefe said.
Last year’s winning team has graduated, leaving an opportunity for the many teams vying for victory to get their name on the coveted trophy.
The senior officers plan to release the bracket with all the teams registered the day of the tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
