D.E.I Statement
The WA Ghostwriter acknowledges that a commitment to full, fair coverage constitutes respecting and actively reporting on the cultural traditions, beliefs, and views of our entire community. Our publication does not tolerate any forms of hate, violence, or bigotry and is dedicated to upholding both inclusivity and equity through our platform.
- Recognize that diverse voices in journalism matter. Reporters will be intentional and persistent in collecting perspectives from a wide variety of people in the community, especially those often underrepresented.
- Avoid bias, prejudice, and stereotyping in our reporting. We will work towards educating staff on accurate terminology and developing practices that help ensure everyone is able to feel comfortable and represented.
- Foster a newsroom that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive where writers are able to comfortably express both their own identities and uplift others.
- Hold ourselves accountable and strive for continuous improvement, educating ourselves with the awareness that DEI is always evolving.
Although the Ghostwriter’s commitment to the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has been ongoing, this statement comes from the staff’s desire to publicly commit to these goals and hold ourselves accountable
The Westford Academy Ghostwriter aims to represent the school community to the best of our ability. With a limited staff, we know that it will take work to diversify our coverage and ensure it does not leave voices behind.
