As the winter season has come to a close and the weather gets warmer, the excitement of spring sports builds at WA, and the Boys’ Volleyball team is ready to play.
The team is coached by multimedia teacher Brandon Eang and is led by senior captains Dillon Power and Ryan Sun.
“I am looking forward to being able to play against other schools that have former teammates of mine from the club season,” senior Tristan Caldwell said. “If I had to pick a school I’d say Lincoln-Sudbury.”
The boys finished last season with a final record of 3-14 overall, and 1-8 in the Dual County League [DCL], earning them 7th in the league. Power said the team had high expectations and good ratings at the start of last year, but a few early losses caused the team to lose hope and energy. The team is hoping to bounce back this season and make a push in the DCL.
“I think it’s going to be great, we are hungry and ready to go,” Power said. “It’s always nice to beat Acton-Boxborough and Chelmsford for the rivalries.”
Power and Caldwell both prepared for the season with daily practices and workouts, and also by holding captains’ practices to help get the team ready to compete.
“I just played club for around three or four months, so I’m all warmed up,” Caldwell said. “I’m a little bit better from that, and I practice in my free time too.”
The boys’ first game will be on Thursday, March 28th against North Middlesex Regional at Westford Academy at 5:15 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of learning some leadership skills for the underclassmen, and getting them ready for next year and the coming seasons,” Caldwell said.
