dWestford Academy boys’ lacrosse destroyed Woburn High School on Monday, May 6, with a final score of 19-3 in Westford’s favor. Senior Jason Bunyon led the way with five goals, while senior Matthew Curran had three.

WA jumped out to a 5-1 lead five minutes into the game and was leading 9-2 at the end of the first quarter. Bunyon and junior Matthew Curran both had 3 goals in the first quarter, junior John Alfano had one, sophomore Nathan Arsenault had one, and freshman Ryan McCarthy had one.

In the second quarter, Westford scored another five goals, two by Bunyon, two by junior Pressly Mead, and one by McCarthy. Woburn seemed on their heels, and couldn’t get on the offensive. They managed to squeeze one goal in but could not narrow the deficit more.

In the third quarter, WA continued to play strong, scoring three goals: one by senior Nick Antes, one by senior Cameron Barisano, and one by Arsenault. Woburn was held scoreless in the third.

In the final quarter, only two goals were scored, and both were by WA. The first was by junior Matthew Acabbo and the second was scored by sophomore Cole Barisano. Woburn was once again held scoreless.

Overall, WA was on the offensive for much more of the game than Woburn. Woburn rarely got shots on net, and WA defensemen were able to hold off the attack and get the ball to their forwards.

Westford Academy coach Matt Tholander told his players to stop scoring halfway through the fourth quarter, as WA held a 16-point lead and did not need to score again.

WA plays its next game on Thursday, May 9 against Wayland High School at Wayland. WA looks to expand their win-loss record to 12-4, while Wayland looks to move to 9-2.
