Avengers: Endgame the End of an Era for Marvel

Penny Joyce, Staff Writer

As many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) know, the final Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame, came out Friday, April 26th. The movie has been the ultimate goal for directors Anthony and Joe Russo ever since the first Iron Man came out in 2008. There have been 21 other Marvel movies made since then, all of which have kept fans interested to see what would happen next in the complex storyline Marvels created.

One thing that’s kept fans wanting more movies, is that the same favorite actors and actresses are used in all 21 movies made. Like in these past Avengers movies, some of the lead actors were Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Many characters have been added since then but these few were the major characters fans watched for.

The Russo brothers were even able to get minor characters like Happy Hogan, Jane Foster, Harley, the Ancient One, and many more to make appearances. This was a great addition to the movie since some of these characters were only seen for a short time.

This movie starts with the aftermath of the shocking ending to the Avengers: Infinity War, which was the last Avengers movie before Endgame. The villain Iron Man, Captain America, and many more are trying to stop is Thanos. The Mad Titan, Thanos, spent the duration of Infinity War collecting the all powerful infinity stones while the Avengers came together to try and stop him. These stones each have a their own unique element that allows the being holding them to unimaginable power. Despite the Avengers best efforts Thanos was able to obtain all 6 stones and snap his figures, by doing this he caused half of the universe’s population to turn to dust. This leaves very few Avengers left and sets the plot for Endgame: what do they do next?

Endgame is a roller coaster of emotions, going from hilarious comedic punchlines, engaging action scenes, to hard-hitting emotional parts. People who have kept up to date with the MCU will definitely be on the edge of their seats the entire 3 hours of the movie. Avengers: Endgame is said to be the last Avengers movie, making it essential to the fans, directors, and actors that the storyline is properly wrapped up. To do this in a way that satisfied everyone screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus made sure major characters had their final moments. With all the different plots and characters that required a resolution the movie became the longest Marvel movie in history. Fans were not upset by this since Endgame has so many components in need of an outcome.

Though Marvel will be coming out with more movies, the next being Spider-Man Far Far from Home on July 5th, another Avengers movie is unlikely. Knowing this, a lot of suspense was built up around Endgame making it one of the most anticipated MCU movies. All the tricks were pulled out for Endgame including new technology, elements, and several plot twist which will leave you clapping and crying throughout.

Endgame is definitely worth seeing if you’re looking for a fascinating movie experience, whether you know the MCU movies or not. Screenwriters McFeely and Markus also brought in elements from the Marvel comic books which pleased people who had read the comics and been a fan of those. This huge ending to the MCU will not disappoint fans but, with all the spoilers out you should get in to see Endgame soon before the movie is ruined. Endgame closes out this phase of the Marvel Universe so get ready for a jaw-dropping ending, a movie like Avengers: Endgame doesn’t come around all the time.
