Brothers hides in plain sight
March 4, 2017
Hidden in a strip mall nearby the bustling Chelmsford center, Brothers Pizza is a small pizza joint that offers an extensive menu seen in your typical New England Pizza/sub shop. Overall, the service, speed, and food quality make it one of the better hidden gems in the county.
As noted, the location is in a strip mall of several other businesses, but is not difficult to find, as it is near major routes in Chelmsford. Parking is ample, as the entire mall’s parking is available for use by patrons of any of the businesses in the area.
Early on a Wednesday evening, the location was essentially empty, with one or two customers filtering in to pick up orders. As I approached the counter, I noticed there were only about two or three employees working at the time, but I was serviced rather quickly considering the circumstances. I ordered a small BLT, a small order of french fries, and a bottled drink from the cooler. The total came out to just a bit above $11, which I felt was a fair price to pay for what was ordered.
Settling into my seat, I noticed one smaller TV on the wall featuring the daily news, which I would have had more time to watch had the food not arrived at a rapid pace, to my delight.
The first item I sampled was the BLT. The bread came lightly toasted, and topped with cold vegetables and thick cut bacon cooked to perfection. Each bite was many layers of crispy bread and bacon, contrasting with the veggies. Overall, it was a quality BLT. However, a few more pieces of the succulent bacon would have made it even more savory, albeit far less healthy.
Next up was the french fries. While they were decent, they certainly were not something to jump up and down about. They were basically unseasoned, served with ketchup and the option to put salt and pepper on it. The addition of a bit of pepper made these fries a bit more appealing, but they were missing that specific crunch that many look for in a quality french fry.
In my final assessment of Brothers, this establishment is quick, friendly, and offers solid food especially at the price paid for the meal. With all this in mind, the Ghostwriter gives Brothers 8/10.
