Westford Academy Wins Over Lincoln-Sudbury

On Feburary 9th, WA Girls’ Basketball won against Lincoln-Sudbury. WA had a comfortable lead most of the game, but as the game progressed, the team started to let LS gain some points. The end score was 59 – 49 with WA ten points in the lead.
The first quarter started with WA getting the first shot and two foul shots. Once LS finally got their hands on the ball, WA stole it right back and scored two more shots. Maddie Russell and Angela Alibrandi scored and brought the score at the middle of first quarter with WA leading, to 10 – 2. WA maintained its lead and brought the first quarter to a close with a score of 14- 7 points.
During the second quarter, the first points for WA were shot by Angela Alibrandi, but soon after WA called a timeout. Both teams continued to be aggressive in offense and defense. A three-pointer shot by Emily Bramanti and a shot by Angela Alibrandi brought the score at the middle of the first quarter to 23-16.
As the game progressed, possession of the ball rotated between WA and LS many times before Bramanti shot a three pointer, bringing the scores for the end of second quarter to 28 – 16 with WA 12 points in the lead.
WA was in possession of the ball at the beginning of third quarter, but the ball bounced around between the two teams before the first shot scored. A few minutes into the beginning of the third quarter, WA made four three-pointers.
Towards the second half of third quarter, LS started to gain on WA, but WA managed to stay ahead with an end score of 42 – 34.
During the the last quarter, WA maintained a lead of around 8 points. During half time, WA had a total score of 45 points to LS’s 36 points.
Coach Russell Coward felt that overall, the team played a good game.
“Overall we played a good game. We were in control for most of the game, and I thought our offense was very good. We need to do some more work on defense, but we are playing well,” said Coward.
The team has their next game at Acton-Boxborough on Februrary 11th.
