5 Super Bowl commercials we loved
February 8, 2016
Football was only a part of the occasion for fans all across the nation and the world when watching Super Bowl 50 this past Sunday night. Many enjoy the game for its new and entertaining commercials for big name brands throughout the US. Here are five of our favorite, ranked from 5th best to the very best commercials during the big game.
5. Heinz Ketchup
This ad featured a stampede of wiener dogs in none other than hot dog costumes, running towards a “family” of ketchup and mustard. While many critiqued this ad for its silliness and simplicity, that aspect actually made it a genius ad. Simple and funny commercials get our attention, and this one did just that.
4. Amazon
This star studded commercial, featuring Alec Baldwin, Dan Marino, and Missy Elliot, was one of the funniest during the entire game. Using the Amazon Echo, Baldwin and Marino belittled each other for their lack of winnings in their careers. As the commercial comes to a close, Elliot takes the chance to use the Amazon product to release her new song “Pep Rally”. All in all, the stars and dialogue in this made it very enjoyable.
3. Drunk Driving Warning
While this ad was not funny, it was entertaining in the way it was presented. Oscar winner Helen Mirren was featured in this Budweiser commercial as a public service announcement against drunk driving. Mirren used her accent and English insults to berate anyone who has engaged in drunk driving in the past. This was one the more powerful ad in the game.
2. Buick
Football fans rejoiced at this ad, as it brought back into the limelight NFL star Odell Beckham Jr., famous for his falling, one handed catch for the Giants last season. The commercial begins when bridesmaids are trying to catch the bouquet from a recently married bride. One bridesmaid catches the bouquet in the same way Beckham did last season. The wedding party begins to comment on how the woman “Odelled it”, a popular phrase used to explain how a catch is made similar to Beckham’s. However, Odell, who is at the wedding, comments how she was out of bounds. Eventually, the ad shifts to its focus, a Buick convertible, the Cascade. This commercial was perfect for football fans, and hence was one of the best ones of the night.

1. T-Mobile
This T mobile promo was the best, and not only because of its creative writing, but also because one of the biggest artists in the world, Drake, who took center stage. The ad begins similar to Drake’s famous “Hotline Bling” music video. Suddenly, it stops and three businesspeople walk towards the hip hop star. They instruct him to change lyrics of his hit song to work with how the “other” wireless companies do business. Drake embraces the changes, saying that the new changes don’t make the song bad. T-Mobile won the best commercial this year due to having the most recognizable celebrity of the current times, as well as passively attacking their competitors in the wireless business.
