Taranto leads DECA
November 3, 2015
Senior Alexandra Taranto has been selected to be this year’s DECA team president. DECA is the largest club in Massachusetts and is usually lead by a student team. Taranto is the DECA’s first president in the last 4 years.
Taranto has participated in DECA for all four years of high school. DECA advisors John Rogers and Adam Gagne originally did not intend on having a president this year, but decided that Taranto was right for the job.
“She had so many great ideas and she is very self motivated. She wasn’t elected, she was selected,” said Rogers.
According to her guidance counselor Heidi Hider, Taranto is a team player and organized, which exhibits the qualities of a president and leader. Additionally, she is very accepting of everyone and open to ideas.
“Most students do these sort of things because it looks good on college applications, but Alex really cares about DECA and finds time for it. She’s a cool cat and deserves this,” said Hider.
Among the many ideas she has had, one is the mandatory parent and student meeting which informed them of new DECA ideas. Taranto organized the successful meeting herself. She also worked on a resource center with some students.
Taranto began to take DECA more seriously when, as a freshman, she and her partner, senior Bridget Gomes made it to states.
“I started to get a really good connection with Mr. Rogers which helped me love business and now I know that’s what I want to major in college,” said Taranto.
