Golf team heads to state championship
October 26, 2015
On Monday, October 26th, WA Golf Team will be competing in the state championships against multiple other teams from across Massachusetts.
This year, WA Golf has had an astounding 11-3 record, and have a high chance of doing well at the championships because of their win record against their opponents.
According to senior Pat Hesseltine, the team is very confident in their ability to perform well during the game.
“We are all working so hard and practicing every day for this competition. All of us are so excited for this opportunity and if we stick to what we have been doing then we can put up a really good number,” said Hesseltine.
Lincoln Sudbury and Acton Boxboro will be present, along with ten other teams at the game. LS and AB were some of the teams that actually defeated WA, and will be their greatest competitors. Despite that, WA can still bring home the victory if the whole team is playing at their best.
If WA can pull out a win on Monday, this will be the first time that the golf team has brought home the state title. While the team has been constantly performing well these past few years, the drive that all of the players possess this season has helped them work up to this point.
“There’s not one kid on this team who doesn’t want to get better each and every day […] If we struggle one day we will go the next day to course and figure out what happened the day before. That’s what makes our team so good and that’s why [we are] where we are now,” said Hesseltine.
Hesseltine will be joined by seniors Pat Nolan, David Ellis, Jack Koravos, and Connor Morse on Monday, as well as junior Nick Kovalchik.
Koravos, the captain of the team, described the positive attitude the players had throughout the season, saying, “We always knew we had the potential to go far, we just needed to perform well.”
Since most of the players are seniors this year, fans of the team have doubt that WA Golf will continue this trend of success next season, but the players are optimistic.
Koravos said, “The team will be young next year and I feel they’re going to need a year or two to really build up. But some guys could step it up in the off season. Just have to wait and see.”
