Varshini Ramanathan and Kai-Jia Yue

The following edited transcript is an exclusive online Q&A with the writers of the new local news parody, The WA Ghostbuster (waghostbuster.com), which is taking the WA community by storm. The Ghostbuster staff was given anonymity to tell their story.

Q: What prompted you to start this paper?

A: To provide a humorous perspective and commentary on the experience of attending Westford Academy. WA needed a #sorelatable. It’s also a way for the writers to enjoy and experiment with writing and satire in an ungraded, freely creative environment.

Q: Judging by the content, The Ghostbuster is aimed at students, right? Are there any other audiences at WA who you feel have come to appreciate this #sorelatable?

A: The Ghostbuster is aimed at students, but we’ve been happy to find that teachers also enjoy our articles. Westford moms also seem to sometimes appreciate our work.

Q: When did the Ghostbuster start up?

A: The idea emerged at the end of the last school year, but we officially launched on October 10th.

Q: What was it that brought the staff of the Ghostbuster together?

A: Teenage angst and an undying love for Westford Academy.

Q: What exactly are you making fun of by writing some of these articles?

A: It depends on the article, but mostly hypocrisy and irony we can make humorous. Please consult our articles for more information.

Q: What are the major flaws you guys are trying to point out at Westford Academy?

A: Let me be clear: we’re a satirical organization, so it’s important to take everything we say with a grain of salt.We really aren’t targeting anything in particular; we just look for any hypocrisy or irony that appears in the happenings at WA.

Q: How has your response to your publicity been? Is it what you expected, and are you happy with it?

A: We’ve been really happy with the publicity. In fact, we’re even happy that some people just don’t get it. It sort of legitimizes the need for a satirical paper.

Q: Has the site been what you expected so far in terms of publicity, effort, and other factors?

A: We’re very happy with the publicity and popularity so far. We knew it would be a pretty big commitment, seeing as we’re regular busy high schoolers.

Q: Do you attend WA?

A: We spend more time at WA than we spend asleep in our beds, so yes.

Q: What do you see for the future of the Ghostbuster?

A: Sentimental crying, existential crises, another all nighter.
