A freshman’s guide to spirit week
October 16, 2015
Seniors come barreling out of the gymnasium doors and run as a black mass to the soccer fields. Their shouts are echoing and the underclassmen watch in awe of the excitement and unity displayed at an event known at Westford Academy as the spirit rally.
But before this exciting event, there is spirit week. For any student or teacher unsure of what to expect for spirit week, the following is a brief explanation of this great WA tradition.
Most have dreamed of the first day of spirit week since kindergarten–pajama day. Pajama day will be held this year on October 19th. For pajama day, students wear anywhere from onesies to the classic, plaid-flannel pajama.
Following Pajama day, USA day will be held on Tuesday, October 20th. On USA day, the halls of WA are streaked with red, white, and blue. Some students can even be seen wearing a flag as a cape.
Two exciting events in high school are Prom and Cotillion, but students have the opportunity to dress formally even if they are not juniors or seniors. On October 21st, the third day of spirit week will be formal day. On this day, students can be seen wearing clothes as formal as prom dresses or as fancy as tuxedo t-shirts.
The following day is the spookiest of them all–Halloween day. On October 22nd, students can wear the traditional black and orange colors. However, some students, most commonly seniors, will be seen in fun, unique costumes.
Finally, on spirit rally day, October 23rd is reserved for class spirit day. Students in every grade wear their class t-shirts, and seniors paint their faces black and silver. This day is a great opportunity for students to feel united with their class.
