Marvel dominates over DC Comics
June 16, 2015
Ever since 1933, when the first comic book was created in the U.S., Famous Funnies, kids have been going to comic book stores and getting lost in their own adventures with heroes such as Captain America or Batman. Two of the most prominent publishers in the business have been arch rivals ever since they were first published: Marvel Comics, and Detective Comics, now more often known as DC Comics.
Both Marvel and DC fans have been sparking debates on which one is better, and while DC has been around for a slightly longer, I myself prefer Marvel over DC.
Detective Comics began publishing 1934 and got their major hit soon after starting the company. Nobody had ever really heard of “superheroes”, but in 1938, they came out with Superman, (who is….) and he was a major hit with the public. From that moment on, they became one of the most widely known comic book publishers in the business.
Marvel, on the other hand, came out 1939, which was only one year after Superman became popular with the public. However, Marvel came out with the Human Torch (who is….), who also became quite popular.
Fast forward to modern age of technology, and now both DC and Marvel are renowned comic book publishers, each with their own popular line up of superheroes under their belts. Marvel has some of the greats like Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, but DC has Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, and the Green Lantern.
This past May solidified my opinion that Marvel is far superior to Detective Comics. On May 1, 2015, Marvel came out with the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, a sequel to the first popular movie, Avengers. For DC Comics, the most recent movie that they’ve made was in 2013, which was Superman: Man of Steel. Although Man of Steel did make quite a bundle grossing roughly 405 million dollars worldwide with a 190 million dollar movie budget, Avengers: Age of Ultron came out with even more impressive standings, so far earning about 1,340 million world wide and having a production budget of an estimated 250 million dollars. All in all, Marvel’s Age of Ultron was more liked by public, and by me, than DC Comics’s, Superman: Man of Steel.
Marvel’s movies are action packed, and interesting, and Marvel has constantly come out with new movies every year since 2012. So, in the end, Marvel is exceedingly better than all other comic book publishing companies, including DC Comics.
