The Westford Academy Girls’ Ice Hockey team defeated Chelmsford with a score of 1-5 this past Saturday at The Groton School.
In the first period, Kathryn Walker from Westford scored the first goal of the game.
Kerry Pouliot played as goalie and made an impressive block eight minutes into the game.
With four minutes left in the first period, Kelly Demarco stole the puck. A team member from Chelmsford was badly injured and had to leave the game.
In the second period, Roselyn Regan stopped Chelmsford from scoring a goal, while Pouliot saved two goals as well.
Katheryn Walker stole the puck from Chelmsford with six minutes left in the second period. Demarco made a good play, and nearly scored Westford a goal, while Kaitlin Campbell battled Chelmsford for the puck.
With only two minutes left, Pouliot blocked yet another goal.
In the third period, Chelmsford scored their first goal of the game. The game began to pick up speed and the crowd grew increasingly excited. For the first five minutes, the two teams aggressively fought for the puck.
With eight minutes left in the game, Katheryn Hargrave scored another goal for Westford.
A fourth goal is scored by Walker, immediately followed by a goal scored by Alayna Serpa.
In the last few minutes of the game, Westford dominated the field and won the game.
At the end of the game, Coach Bob Ware told his team that they put up a good fight and everyone contributed to the win.
Kathryn Walker, the team’s captain, said “I thought we played a great game. It was a great team effort and we never took our foot off of the gas pedal.”
