On Friday February 14, Student Council’s Secret Admirer’s Day is set to take place. With the impending snowstorm, however, it is raising questions among students and staff whether the event will still go as planned.
Every year, Student Council holds Secret Admirer’s Day on Valentine’s Day. Students purchase gifts they want to send to either their friends or significant others, and Student Council members deliver the gifts to those people’s first block classes.
Senior Student Council Member Abby Cianciolo is in charge of Secret Admirer’s Day this year and said that Student Council had to make the decision to stop taking gift orders today, February 12, due to the possibility of a snow day Thursday. However, this did not affect sales in the least.
“We actually had a significant increase in sales this year, which is surprising because we had a day less to sell,” said Cianciolo.
In the event of a snow day on Thursday, February 13, Secret Admirer’s Day will go as planned and gifts will be delivered in students’ first block classes on Friday, which is “B” block.
“If school is canceled Thursday, it will not affect gift distribution on Friday,” she said. “I will have to pick up the flowers from our florist myself and bring them back to my house to assemble all the orders.”
According to Kathie Ablondi, Dean Parent’s administrative assistant, in the case of a one and a half hour delay, all classes will be held Friday and gifts will still be delivered to students’ B block classes. If there is a two hour delay on Friday, gifts will be delivered to “B” block as planned, and blocks “D” and “A” will be dropped.
Cianciolo said she is trying to stay positive about this situation.
“I am just hoping the snow doesn’t affect school on Friday,” she said.
