This week’s power rankings:
1) Supersonics (9-1) – Unstoppable. The Supersonics have been a formidable force all season and have once again secured the top spot in the league with a hard fought victory over the Knicks on Monday.
2) Rockets (6-3) – Bouncing back from a losing streak, this team has won four in a row including wins over the ranked Blazers and Knicks this week. They have moved up two spots this week.
3) Jazz (7-3) – With a commanding and definitive win over the Heat, the Jazz have returned to the top three after having dropped last week. This junior heavy squad is led in scoring by Sean Coppinger and in spirit by Andy Dunn.
4) Blazers (6-4) – Jack Underhill has been the difference maker. Senior Sam Libby has been a strong ball handler who gets everyone involved. They have won four out of their last five, their only loss coming to the Rockets.
5) Knicks (7-3) – The Knicks faced a tough schedule this week with back to back games against the Rockets and Supersonics. Both games were close contests however. Look for them to bounce back this week against the Warriors.
6) Magic (5-5) – After back-to-back wins, the Magic, led by senior Andrew Clark, have been invigorated by the new addition of senior Joe Preiss. Since the Preiss pickup, the Magic have won four out of their last five.
7) Thunder (5-5) – This is more of a group of individuals than a team. Their talent is undeniable, junior John Devereaux dropped 35 points Monday, but their chemistry is questionable.
8) Heat (5-4) – Even with a full roster, the Heat could not defeat the Jazz, raising questions if they have enough surrounding talent. After their exciting 84 point game last week, they have dropped five places in the rankings.
