A group of students held a monthly collaboration with Suzanne. Harde in the library for the Book Club on October 8th after school. Here, students had the opportunity to come discuss books and, according to the group, eat homemade cake.
When asked what incentive the average Westford Academy student would have to join the club, the common consensus was “the cake.”
The club just finished their first book of the year, Double by Jenny Valentine. The club unanimously agreed that the story was a good read with a cliche yet unexpected twist. One member, Lara Dudley, rates the book a “4.732 out of 5.”
The Book Club has been around for years, this only being Harde’s fourth year as club advisor. The group is not very large, with only six members, and which makes it easier for each member to talk and express their personal opinions. The majority of those in the club have been there since their freshman year.
This month’s book is The Berlin Boxing Club by Robert Sharenow, a story about a 14-year-old Jewish boy fighting his way through prejudice and antisemitism with boxing. The club is excited to read this new book and meet next month to discuss the story and eat some more homemade cake.
