For those who cannot afford fancy gifts for birthday parties or for those who need to bring something special to next week’s potluck, homemade goods are probably the best possible solutions. Chocolate is a classic standby, but the only thing better than chocolate itself is chocolate truffles. Inherently simple and delicious, these bit-sized pieces of decadent ganache coated in cocoa powder are very easy to make as long as there is time and patience available.
Below is a list of ingredients as well as slideshow accompanying step-by-step directions:
Chocolate ganache
- 2 cups bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- a pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, softened
The coating for the ganache
- 1 cup of Dutch-processed cocoa
- 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
** Instead of cocoa, other toppings can be used to coat the outside. Try coating the ganache different types of chopped nuts or coconut**
Yield 32 chocolate truffles
