Throughout the winter I’ve been craving a nice warm cup of hot chocolate and searching for a place to drink it with my friends. Although Brew’d was not the best place for a cup of hot chocolate, it was definitely a great place I could hang out with friends whenever I’m in Lowell. The café‘s hours are pretty lengthy and great for students who are looking for a café after school. On an average day, Brew’d opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes around 9:00 p.m.
I recently visited Brew’d Awakening Coffeehaus on a Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. with my dad. He had heard from some of his friends that the lattes at Brew’d were really good. We were both excited to experience the local café, and when we arrived it was clear that Brew’d Awakening is an adored spot. Despite being located on a hidden street in Lowell, it still seems to attract a lot of customers. Almost every person inside had a cup of coffee or latte either in their hand or on their table.
In addition to the lively atmosphere, the overall design of the café added to its charm. The interior features consisted of brick walls and a variety of rustic decor, giving it a slightly vintage feel. The usage of wood throughout the space created a welcoming environment. The seating was comfortable, with a mix of small tables and cozy nooks that would be perfect for catching up with friends or spending time alone with a good book or laptop.
The café is on the smaller side but it still had a cozy vibe. It’s a place that’s perfect for hanging out with a friend or family member, but it can get cramped when it gets busy. I also noticed that it seems to be a favorite among locals because we saw a mix of people with some walking in for quick takeout orders and others settling in to chat or work. As time went on, the place only got busier. By the time my dad and I were leaving, every single seat inside was taken. Despite the crowd, the staff did a great job keeping things moving smoothly. There were only two staff members working, and the service was quick and efficient, which was impressive given how busy the place was. Our order came out in minutes, and I really appreciated how well they managed the flow of customers.
I tried the caramel pretzel brownie ($4.00) and a hot chocolate ($4.60). The brownie didn’t quite meet my expectations. The flavor felt off, with an overly sweet and artificial taste, which made it hard for me to finish. On the other hand, the hot chocolate was fairly enjoyable. While it wasn’t the best hot chocolate I’ve had, it was still good because it was very warm. It did have a slight cardboard aftertaste and was a bit on the thinner and watery side.
I wasn’t that impressed with the brownie or the hot chocolate, but I did noticed that the cafe has a reputation for its coffee. My dad is a fan of good coffee, and had mentioned that he heard nothing but positive things about the lattes at Brew’d Awakening. Looking around, I could tell he was right. Everyone around us seemed to have a cup of coffee or a latte. The atmosphere in the café makes it a great place to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee, whether you’re relaxing or catching up with a friend.
The café’s location in an alley is like a hidden gem, making it not be the most obvious place to find. However, it’s definitely worth seeking out. One thing that makes Brew’d Awakening stand out is its sense of community; despite its small size, the vibe inside is welcoming and lively. It felt like a place where people come together to connect over a cup of coffee.
All things considered, Brew’d Awakening Coffeehaus is a great spot for anyone looking for a cozy environment to enjoy a drink or dessert. While the brownie and hot chocolate weren’t my favorites, the service was quick. The overall vibe of the café made it a pleasant place to spend some time. I can definitely see why it is busy, and I’ll be sure to return to try one of their highly recommended lattes next time.
