Many dining locations are limited with their vegan and allergy-based options, but Dragonfly Cafe is not one of those places. Located right off the Lowell turnpike, the Dragonfly Cafe welcomes you with earthy decor and the smell of coffee. Dragonfly Cafe’s philosophy is that food is meant to rejuvenate and revive your body. That’s why their main focus is on the quality of their ingredients and the overall recipe of their meals as well as including a wide spread of meals that cater to the needs of all individuals.
Dragonfly Cafe is open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. making it a convenient place to hang out and study for students.
As soon as I stepped foot in the cafe I was delighted by how spacious yet comforting the space felt. There were plants scattered around the room and multiple different forms of seating arrangements ranging from high tables and chairs to comfortable couches and tables.
At the cafe entrance you’re greeted with a menu highlighting the wide range of specialty drinks. I went on a Sunday at noon and the place was relatively full but the atmosphere was very inviting and comforting even with the abundance of people. The cashier was pleasant, very patient, and kind with my mom and brother who accompanied me to the cafe. As we were ordering, she went out of her way to ask customers what cookie shape they wanted and immediately gave the cookie to us.
Our drinks came out about 5 minutes after we ordered and were delivered to our table. I ordered the small hot chocolate, priced at $4.25. It was pleasantly warm but not burning, and chocolatey without being too overpowering. It also wasn’t anything special however and the taste very closely resembles that of a Swiss Miss packet.
My mom ordered a coffee with their gingerbread syrup and said it was delicious although a tad sweet, but again, not burning hot. She was happy to be able to drink it right as it came out.
Since I got the plain hot chocolate, I wanted to try one of their plethora of vegan options. I chose the gingerbread cookie, and it was a delicious and festive treat. The gingerbread cookie was very fitting for the holiday season, even shaped like a christmas tree with its icing decoration. The cookie paired well with the hot chocolate balancing out the rich chocolate flavor with the cinnamon and ginger of the cookie.
The food came out about 10 minutes after the drinks had. My mom ordered the “Avocado Toast” and my brother got the “Sunrise Wrap” which consists of a tortilla wrap filled with scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, sautéed onions, peppers, and their homemade chipotle aioli. My brother expressed his fondness for the meal but thought it was a tad expensive at 10 dollars for a “normal wrap”. My mom said her meal was delightful with the dressing accompanying it, but again expensive at $10 for a relatively small portion.
Overall Dragonfly Cafe was a great spot with a lot of options for food, including meals for those with allergies to foods and or dietary restrictions. It also had great hot chocolate, however it was more expensive because they focus so much on the quality of their ingredients. It was also further away than other locations who offer the same meals like, Paul’s Diner or Muffins on Main. Ultimately, I would recommend Dragonfly Cafe for those with food related allergies and those who are concerned with the quality of the ingredients put into meals.
