Students and staff from Westford Academy came together for the WA Unified Basketball team’s first-ever match against teachers on Wednesday, Nov. 25 during the school day. After a hard fought battle on both sides, the Unified team earned a victory during both halves, scoring 28-10 and 33-9 respectively.
Newly formed this year, the Unified Basketball program brings together students with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDDs) and student volunteers to compete together during the fall season.
“It was really moving seeing almost the whole school cheering on the Unified team,” senior partner Laney Mach said. “It means so much for the athletes to have their team and their classmates here [supporting] them.”
