I always thought that “senior year just flies by” was a cliché statement. But sitting here today, as I reflect on my years here at Westford Academy, I could never be too sure of the true meaning behind this sentiment. I cannot believe that this is my very last editorial I will write for the Ghostwriter. As I leave this school, I will take my memories and all that I have learned.

So in my last editorial, I want to share a few words about my experience at Westford Academy.

Being a student at such a reputed school, students feel the need to strive beyond their capacity. The ultimate goal is to graduate with a destination at an Ivy League school. Over the years I have seen my classmates work beyond their capacity solely to get that A that will boost their GPA. They join after school clubs that will appeal to college admissions and strive to gain a strong position to prove their leadership.

We spend four years working for the unknown, for this higher institution that we don’t even know we will be attending. But the question is, is it worth it? Should we really work hard for the unknown to the point that the present has no meaning to us? High school truly is a memorable experience and trust me, you do not want to look back at it and only remember how you were the perfect college candidate.

Getting into your dream college is just as important as enjoying high school. I believe that you should be able to maintain an academic and social balance.

Smile at those you know in the halls. Thank the lunch ladies for your daily meals. Support your athletic classmates at sports games. Attend the plays performed by the talented theater group. Join or start an interesting club where you can learn more about the world. Enjoy a night at the school dance with your friends. The school has so much to offer, so take advantage of it!

So Westford Academy, enjoy your time here because before you know it, you will be beginning your journey to independence.
