The Class of 2020 has been graced with new Chromebook laptops to be used in the classroom throughout the year. The Ghostwriter spoke to a few members of this freshman class to gather their opinions on the new technology they have been given.

“I like the Chromebooks. They are very useful in class but kind of heavy and take up room in our backpacks. Other than that, I like them,” Elmira Grigoryan said.

“The Chromebooks are pretty rad. They’re heavy and use too much space in your backpack, but they’re pretty useful for the classrooms,” Tamara Randolph said.

“I think that the Chromebooks are useful, but they’re also underused in some classes. I believe that [Chromebooks] could replace a lot more texts than they already do. […] I definitely think they could be used for other purposes in the classroom […],” Justin Friel said.

Faculty also have plenty to say about the new technology. Math curriculum coordinator Kristina McHugh was delighted to have a new piece of technology in her classes.

“I love how it changed the classroom. I love that I was able to put my course expectations up on Google Classroom,” McHugh said.

However, McHugh notes that there are those still reluctant about the change.

“It seems like it from what I’ve heard there are definitely some people who are still not quite sure how they want best to use it and there are other people who are like me that are already so excited. As the school year continues,[…] we’ll be able to share what we are doing. I think that it’s going to grow and change as we keep going,” said McHugh.

The program is expected to continue through this year and into the coming school years.

Freshmen: Tell us your opinion on the Chromebooks. Take the poll and tell the Ghostwriter what the Class of 2020 thinks of their new computers.
