Senior Kat Vlach: “I think social media does play a role in a person’s self esteem. If you look at actresses and models that post photoshopped pictures online, it can make you feel bad about yourself because the models seem perfect and it is impossible to look like them.”

Senior Emily Leonard: “Often times people determine how they feel about themselves based on how many likes they have on a certain picture or post and that can affect their self esteem.”

Senior Will O’Neil: “I think there is definitely a correlation between heavy social media use and negative self esteem because you see all of these people who are presenting the best parts of themselves when really everybody has flaws that you don’t see on social media.”

Senior Kerry Simpson: “I think social media affects your self esteem because a lot of people are really concerned about how many friends they have on Facebook or how many followers they have on Instagram. This simple number can determine the way someone feels about themselves.”

Senior Emily Graziani: “I think social media can definitely affect a person’s self esteem. A lot of it is based on numbers: how many followers, likes and comments you have. So, I think numbers are what really impacts a person’s confidence through social media.”
